Making Beds, Social Media and Feeling Smug!
Feeling Resentful.....
So there I was one Friday afternoon. My youngest son had a play date and my older son was going to his after school club.  Great! So now I could get on with building on my ever deepening Social Media knowledge for business.
But, again my house was a state due to my focus, or rather urgent need to learn everything I could about the social media space.  How could I concentrate when I knew beds had to be made, bathrooms cleaned, vacuuming and mopping had to be done etc.
Although cherishing my role as a mother to two fabulous boys, I did feel resentful that I had to carry out such banal chores, taking time away from getting more in depth into my social media learning.  Why could my husband not do it? He was only putting in 14 hour days between commuting and work.  Surely he could make a few beds!
A Lightbulb moment....
Resigned to my diminished place in the world, I started removing sheets from the bed and then I got a flash of inspiration! I know what I can do! I can combine my social media learning and my household chores!  I can listen to some social media apps on my phone while I do my robotic yet essentials tasks at home.
So with that, I downloaded a ‘Social Media for Business’ app powered by Docstoc to my phone.  It had 5 chapters, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Blogging.  All chapters included a number of short videos I could listen to from social media experts, giving great practical advice for using various social media platforms for business.
One video I found extremely useful was ‘Facebook V’s Twitter – Which One should I use to promote my Business?’  The contributor on this video gave a great succinct breakdown of the differences between the two great social media platforms.  Other videos included
The Top 5 Social Media Mistakes by Entrepreneurs
Make Social Media Work for your website
7 Keys to a successful Facebook Fan Page
5 Ways to use Twitter to connect to your business
Find Great Talent with LinkedIn
5 Reasons all businesses should have a blog
Overall there were over 40 videos to listen to or watch and all only a few minutes long.  So even after watching 1 video for 3 minutes, my social media knowledge was improved.
This is a fun and easy way to learn social media tips for your business.  It also makes you think of ways of using social media which you have not thought of already.
Feeling Smug and love.....
So by the time the beds were made and bathrooms cleaned, my social media knowledge was also improved.  Result!  I have to say I was feeling quite smug!  I felt a gush of love for my family and was glad I had to do the mundane tasks of everyday life to force me to think outside the box when it comes to social media learning.  And you can do it too!
